Youth survey coming April 11, LYC

As more activities ramp up with the easing of restrictions, the Lloydminster Youth Council played host to a recreation night for youth in grades 4-9 on Wednesday evening at the Servus Sports Centre.

Chair Rylee Grace Wood says her team is looking forward to having more activities and the recreation night checks all the boxes.

“The idea was just to get kids out and get kids moving, As well get our youth council name out in the city a bit more, things like that. But really we just wanted to have a fun free day for kids.”

Several sports were open for the youth to try out including, volleyball, basketball, soccer, parachutes, yardgames and a bouncy castle all aimed at getting kids interacting with each other, says Wood.

Coming up, the youth council will be involved with the City’s social needs assessment survey. They are presently writing youth-focussed questions for the online survey which will launch on April 11th.

Wood says the City approached them to take lead on the youth social needs aspect.

“We were asked to collaborate with them and make a new social needs assessment targeted towards youth. We tailored the social needs assessment that was given out to everyone else in the city and put a little bit more youth focus in the language and tailor things a bit more to focus toward youth.”

Wood says they are looking forward to getting the feedback from Lloydminster youth on what they want to see and how they feel. As well they are grateful that they were approached for input on the survey which will run over six weeks.

More details will be forthcoming with the Social Needs Assessment launch in April. The previous assessment was done in 2018.
