Pop-up retail debuts at Startup Lloydminster

The local business incubator is opening a Saturday space for small businesses getting back on their feet post-COVID or the tepid entrepreneur seeking to test the retail waters.

Wendy Plandowski, acting executive director at Startup Lloydminster says it’s a unique opportunity for small businesses to attract clients to their goods and services in a pop-up retail format.

“We are really open to any clients at Startup Lloydminster and so that could be anything from somebody selling homemade clothing to food products to whatever it might be that they’re producing.”

Plandowski continues they will be starting with a women’s entrepreneur event with funding from Startup Canada. Upcoming aspects include the young lions participating in the Lloydminster Youth Council business contest, Lion’s Lair.

The Pop Up Retail space will be available from Saturday May 28th to provide the young business with that in-person platform to market themselves as opposed to being online. Plandowski differentiates this program from the farmer’s market.

“Somebody could even come in and promote their business that they are offering services, for example. If somebody is a new business like a consultant. I will say that we will have more opportunities to work with entrepreneurs outside of the physical table type of environment.”

As a business incubator, Plandowski says an entrepreneur can try out the pop up retail a few times as a trial and error with no charge to the fledgling business.
