Council has approved a rainbow crosswalk to be installed at Bud Miller Park coinciding with Lloyd Pride 2022.
The rainbow crosswalk will be painted between the Bioclean Aquatic Centre pool and the Lakeland College parking lot.
With Pride Week activities running until Saturday, the LGBTQ+ Society of Lloydminster is inviting the community to come to Bud Miller Park at 6 p.m. on Wednesday June 15th.
Tiffani Wiesner, president and founder of the not-for-profit, says it’s going to be a learning experience as this is their first time painting a rainbow-themed crosswalk at a Lloydminster facility.
“We’re leaving it open to the public. So anybody who wants to come join, watch, participate. We will take turns. Anybody who wants to partake in the fun. We will just do it that evening and we will be there until it’s done. And the crosswalk will be up until either the rain washes it away or we have to strip it at the end of the month.”
Wiesner says they are elated as the idea has been a few years in the making.
“We are very, very excited. In the end, what we really want to do is develop a sense of community and inclusivity in the city. And we always try to grow the community and increase awareness and I think that this will really, really help us do that.”
They are especially thrilled that it is the first full year of activities since the COVID-restrictions and it’s nice that this is happening even though the actual rainbow installation is happening after the local Pride Week wraps, but will stay up at least until the end of the month.
