A regular on the Open Farm Days tour in Alberta, Charlotte Wasylik with Chatsworth Farms is dishing on some new aspects as well as fan-favoured attractions.
With Open Farm Days coming up in mid-August, Chatsworth Farm will be hosting the public on Saturday August 13th at their Vermilion operation.
Wasylik who has been farming for all of her life says one of the additions is an expanded farmers market.
“We have nine artisan and agricultural vendors this year who are both local and some who are coming from Edmonton and Beaumont. We have a barbecue lunch throughout the day. And it’s featuring our own hot dogs that have been made with our beef. And we have some new hands-on activities.”
The host says they will have guided tours, machinery demos, garden tours and picnic opportunities for families. She encourages people to pre-register on their website as they wish to keep numbers for each guided tour at 55-people.
Wasylik speaks on the importance of people reconnecting with where their food comes from, especially as more people have moved away from a farm.
“So a lot of people are really interested and concerned about where that food comes from and they just want to learn about farming and agricultural life. So Open Farm Days really gives all Albertans and anyone visiting the province that chance to go see a farm, in-person, get their shoes and hands a little dirty and really experience what farming is like.”
The annual event is free and open to the public.
