Uptick in Border City violent crime

It’s a near 14 per cent raise in the violent crime severity index for Lloydminster, Alberta in 2021 as tabulated by the RCMP.

The latest national numbers show the violent crime severity index at 178.05 up from 156.32 in 2020. This is an upward change of exactly 13.9 per cent in Lloydminster.

In March the Lloydminster RCMP delivered its 2021 report to the city which indicated an eight per cent increase in criminal code offences for 2021 when compared to 2020. Crimes against persons were up 24 per cent and property crime up 15 per cent.

Returning to the overall RCMP numbers, for Lloydminster the crime severity index for 2021 is down by 0.29 per cent. For 2020, the crime severity index was 204.46 as compared to 203.86 in 2021. It is also the first year since 2015 that there has been a decrease in the RCMP measurement.

The non-violent crime severity index also saw a change for 2021 when compared to the previous year. It registered a decline of 3.90 per cent.
