From basement art display to New York gallery

From the days when her artwork was displayed in the basement to the present; a local artist is moving a few pieces to the big city.

Artist Brandi Hofer will be showing her work in the Big Apple this September.

The Lloydminster creative has been invited by PxP Contemporary to bring three pieces from her Taylor Collection to New York from September 22nd for three days. Those art pieces are inspired by local photographer Taylor Lorenz.

“They were part of her self-portrait work that she did. She was so great and she inspired the whole collection and she let me use all that photography as source-photography because you just can’t make great portrait figurative artwork if you don’t have a really strong photograph.”

With the excitement of possibility building, Hofer has applied to the Canada Council for the Arts for assistance as she estimates her bills including shipping the paintings to New York to be about $7,000. She is hoping to sell her work along with the recognition of displaying in the big city.

Hofer says she has never been to an art fair so she is looking forward to flying south.

“It would be the very first time in my over 15 year art career that I’ve been invited and given the opportunity to show at an art fair. I’ve shown internationally outside of Paris for residencies, but I’ve never been to an art fair.”

PxP Contemporary was founded by Alicia Puig and Ekaterina Popova.
