Salvation Army appeals for help to restock food bank

With some three-weeks to go until Thanksgiving, an appeal is going out from the Salvation Army for assistance for the local food bank.

Major Bond Jennings says they are seeing a steady increase in requests for help with an average of 10 new families coming in seeking their services each week.

“Food security continues to be a growing concern for our city and like many
our resources are being stretched as we try to meet the need,” says Jennings, the community ministries officer.

He notes for the first six months of this year they have assisted over six thousand people with food hampers.

The Salvation Army is asking that local businesses and community members pitch in to ‘give a little hope today’ and help them restock the food bank shelves by way of monetary or food donations. Other ways to help include transportation, housing or furniture.

Their greatest needs list includes boxes or bags of rice, canned or bottled pasta sauce, chunky soups, dry pasta (such as spaghetti, lasagne, etc.),canned tomatoes, peanut butter,  jams, cheez whiz, and canned beans.

As well, the community can post pictures on social media with their “food tower” donations using the hashtag #hopeforlloyd.

Anyone needing more information can call the Lloydminster Salvation Army at 780-875-
9166.
