With Thanksgiving approaching this weekend, leaders with the Lloydminster Catholic School Division were in the classroom at St. Joseph’s Elementary on Thursday afternoon to read inspirational stories and chat with the kids about the things they are thankful for.
Michelle Rusteika vice chair says the Thanksgiving spirit comes back two-fold when you get to spend time with five-year olds.
“Any day with a five-year old is a good day. We are very thankful to be able to be here and just sharing this and to see where the kids are at and what’s going on. We were a couple years out of the classroom, so having an opportunity to be back in and be face-to-face with kids is fantastic.”
In the last five-years the education leadership has purchased a book for each Kindergarten classroom which they come in to read to the youngsters.
Nigel McCarthy, director of education says they are thankful for these moments especially as the holiday that espouses gratitude is mere days away.
“I think what I’m thankful for are the smiles of students; watching them run to school and watching education happen in the way it should be happening.”
Along with school trustee Cal Fendelet, the trio took turns reading from the book, ‘Nothing can separate you from God’s love,’ which they left with the kids in their classroom.
