Alberta Premier looks to gain legislature seat as Brooks—Medicine Hat byelection runs Tuesday

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith should know whether or not she will be the new Member of the Legislative Assembly for Brooks—Medicine Hat by the end of Tuesday, as voters head to the polls today as part of the provincial seat byelection.

The currently seatless UCP leader is on the ballot against NDP candidate Gwendoline Dirk, with former Brooks Mayor and Alberta Party Leader Barry Morishita also running the riding. Bob Blayone is also on the ballot running as a candidate for the Independence Party of Alberta, with Jeevan Mangat running for the Wildrose Independence Party.

According to Elections Alberta, some 4,231 eligible voters cast an advance ballot in the byelection, representing 12.4 per cent of all eligible voters.
