Mount Joy ski hill opens Saturday Jan. 7

With the bounty of snow on the prairies, Mount Joy ski hill will open its season on Saturday Jan. 7 with 14 runs for ski lovers to enjoy.

President Chris Bogue says Mother Nature has been very cooperative to the ski industry this season.

“It looks like we will have all 14-runs open for Opening Day. Our groom is great. Our base pack is amazing. We are hoping for really good conditions this weekend. We got some renovations done this summer and our Chalet and rental building is painted.”

Bogue says his reading of the weather forecast suggests it “will cooperate for the next couple weeks.” Temperatures in the forecast are hanging around minus six to minus fourteen heading towards Jan. 20.

Last year Mount Joy played host to three schools and Bogue adds they will be bringing on more school kids again this season to enjoy the skiing on Fridays.

“They were great successes. The schools walked away wanting more, so this year we are opening up a couple more spots to allow schools to have groups come out and enjoy the ski area on a weekday.”

Bogue hopes they can get more volunteers to pitch in and that would increase the availability during the week. Mount Joy will operate on the weekends over the ski season. More information can be found on their social media.
