The Saskatchewan government insurer is in the process of developing a new provincial standard which they say will objectively identify excessive vehicle noise.
SGI states that having objective criteria will allow vehicle owners to know whether their vehicle is excessively loud so they can make the necessary changes to bring it into compliance.
Officials with the crown corporation say they are working with industry partners to finalize the policy and implementation plan over the next few months.
The policy is expected to be available in late spring or early summer of 2023.
Following that process SGI will be hosting free educational sessions for motorists to test their vehicles without any consequence and to allow owners to find out if their vehicle is over the established threshold.
