Onion Lake woman suspect in infant sudden death

A woman from Onion Lake is facing charges following an RCMP investigation into the sudden death of an infant at a home.

On Jan. 5, 2022, Onion Lake RCMP received a report of a sudden death of an infant at a residence on Onion Lake Cree Nation. Based on preliminary information gathered by Onion Lake RCMP and the Lloydminster RCMP General Investigation Section, it was determined Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes would take the lead on the investigation.

Following input from the North Battleford Forensic Identification Section, as well as the Saskatchewan Coroners Service and the Crown charges have been laid against the suspect.

Tashia Turner, 33-years of Onion Lake Cree Nation, has been charged with concealing the body of a child. The suspect was arrested without incident on March 7, 2023. She was released from custody on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan provincial court on April 19, 2023, at 9:30 a.m.

As this file is now before the courts, no further information will be made available, say investigators.
