Minimum wage increase in Alberta

Minimum wage earners in Alberta will see a boost in their pay cheques next week. The province is giving its two minimum wages a boost, increasing the general minimum wage 25 cents to 10 dollars and 20 cents an hour, and the bumping liquor server minimum wage by 15 cents to 9 dollars and 20 cents. A 1 dollar per hour differential has been kept between the two wages, to recognize that liquor servers typically earn tips. The increase in minimum wage, when Alberta’s high personal exemption and low tax rates are factored in, makes the new minimum wage second-highest in Canada, after Ontario.
