Bonnyville man jumps from two-storey balcony to escape attack from girlfriend

A Bonnyville woman has been arrested following a domestic dispute that turned violent.

On April 21st, around 5:00 p.m., a male attended the Bonnyville RCMP Detachment with obvious injuries to his face and hands, and without shoes on.

The male reported that he had just been assaulted by his girlfriend.  The male disclosed that a verbal argument turned physical, as his girlfriend, a 49-year-old female resident of Bonnyville, started throwing kitchen items at him from across the apartment, including a frying pan. The female then grabbed a knife and chased the man around the apartment forcing the victim to find an object to use as a shield.

A struggle ensued over the knife, which the male was able to get away from the female, but it lead to her punching him in the face several times.

The male was able to get away from the female briefly and got out onto the second story patio where he jumped off the balcony because he felt it was the only way to get away from the female.  The male got in his vehicle and the female appeared and started hitting his vehicle with her purse.

Officers attended the residence, following his report, and arrested the female. Police checks on the female showed she was wanted out of Ontario and has a criminal record including violent offences.

The female was taken into custody until her court appearance in Bonnyville provincial court April 26th, for charges of Assault, Assault with a Weapon, Uttering Threats, Mischief, and Failing to Comply.
