Choose Love mural officially unveiled

The Choose Love – Join Hands in Truth and Reconciliation mural was officially unveiled, Tuesday on the north wall of the SHA Prairie North Plaza.

Residents were able to trace their hands on the wall to show their choice for love and solidarity to acknowledge the past, reconcile in the present and pledge to move forward.

Stephanie Munro, CEO of the Lloydminster Region Health Foundation says the interactive mural project has been several years in the making.

“Everyone that came today had the opportunity to trace their hand on the mural – truly joining hands in choosing love as we commit to truth and reconciliation. It’s very emotional for a lot of people as it brought up feelings from the past, but a lot of hope and inspiration as well,” says Munro.

“Every day when we look at this mural, it will continue to remind us of the pledge we made when we put this mural on the wall. Anyone that walks by this wall or has been impacted by this wall, their mental wellness is increased, whether you’re just walking into this building for work, or you are reaffirming your commitment to truth and reconciliation.”

Munro thanked the long list of community partners for their involvement and noted that the next project would be the Dodge for a Cause – dodgeball tournament being held on Nov. 28 at the Hoop Factory.

The Choose Love mural is the work of several artists through the vision of artist Brandi Hofer and photographer Randi Noble.
