Suspect swallows baggie of drugs in arrest to keep it from police

Bonnyville RCMP have arrested a man on possession of methamphetamine.

On Saturday, May 7th, a Constable pulled over a vehicle traveling westbound on highway 657 near Kehewin around 9:30 p.m., that was noted as not up to vehicle equipment regulation standards.

The driver was not the registered owner of the vehicle and possessed no license or ID on his person so he was detained for identification purposes.

Search incidental to his detention revealed methamphetamine in the man’s pocket. When the officer attempted to arrest him, the man became agressive and a fight ensued. The man was able to obtain and swallow the baggie of drugs. The man refused medical treatment for ingesting the drugs, believed to be between 1/4 and 1/2 an ounce of methamphetamine.

48-year-old, Ricky Badger currently remains in custody, facing charges of 2 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Resist Arrest, Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Unauthorized possession of a prohibited/restricted firearm, 2 counts of Possession of weapon contrary to order to surrender, Unsafe storage of a firearm, 2 counts of Identity Theft, Possession of Stolen Property, driving while disqualified and theft. He is scheduled to appear in court May 17th in Bonnyville.

There were also four passengers in the vehicle at the time of the arrest, one of whom was a female with outstanding warrants for her arrest, so she was later remanded in custody.  The other 3 passengers were released without charges.
