Junior curlers brush up on skills with the pros

As part of the Astec Safety Curling Challenge, some 60 young curlers were able to visit with Team Bottcher to brush up on some of the finer angles of the game.

Brett Gallant who plays second on the Brendan Bottcher rink said the young talent was excited to have professional eyes offering pointers on their technique.

“They were just soaking everything in. It’s just amazing to see how willing they were to take any tips and advice we were giving them with their deliveries and implement it right away.”

Gallant added it was great to have input from some of the other outfits here for the weekend curling challenge at the Lloydminster Golf and Curling Centre.

“The key thing is a lot of them are looking for little things to improve – and little things here and there can make a big difference. If they are looking to put the work and practice in, which you can tell a lot of them are, then I think we are going to see a lot of great curlers from the area in the near future,” said Gallant.

In sharing the wisdom that the pros have picked up over the years, Gallant noted experience shows on the ice when making difficult shots, and they were happy to share their insights with the young curlers.
