Bar complex damaged by late-night fire

The Buckle and the Tier Ultra Lounge have been shuttered following an overnight fire in the Border City.

According to Lloydminster Fire Chief Jordan Newton, a report of smoke coming from the bar district came in the fire department in the early morning. Upon arrival, firefighters observed a significant amount of smoke coming from the building containing the two businesses, concentrated in the roof.

Newton said fire crews managed to get control of the scene quickly, though they had to slow down due to structural compromise occurring in the building. The fire department also deployed a large amount of their assets, with three pumper units, an aerial truck, and utility truck.

Images posted on social media from the scene show the blaze being tackled with the aerial truck, while smoke poured from the front of the building.

Newton said the damage to the building was significant in the interior, with smoke and heat affecting the whole building holding the Tier and the Buckle. The roof line has sagged, following the blaze, and a number of trusses have given out. Fire investigators remain on scene.

“We had to be here for quite a while,” said Newton.

Newton also said the fire department had been in contact with the owners of the building. As for how long the Buckle and the Tier may be out of action, the timeline remains unclear.

“It might be a little while,” said Newton.

“The insurance company and all the great restoration companies in Lloyd, I’m sure will have this place up and running in no time.”
