Human remains found in torched vehicle

The following is a release from the North Battleford RCMP.

—————————————————————————————————————————————-

At 1:11 pm on Friday, June 17th, 2016, North Battleford RCMP were called to a vehicle on fire on Highway #4 between the communities of North Battleford and Mosquito First Nation.  When police and fire arrived, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.  The fire was quickly extinguished, at which time human remains were located in the rear seat of the vehicle.

Members of the North Battleford General Investigation Section, Forensic Identification Section and Fire Scene Examiner, along with the Regina Major Crime Unit and Office of the Chief Coroner were called to assist with the investigation.

The human remains have not been identified; however, are believed to be those of an adult male. An autopsy is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, June 22, 2016 in Saskatoon.

The burnt vehicle is described as a 4-door, blue, 2006, Hyundai Elantra.  Investigation has revealed five other occupants were inside the vehicle before the fire. These five people have been located by police and it’s been determined they left the car and were given a ride to Mosquito First Nation by two good Samaritans. North Battleford RCMP would like to speak to the two individuals who provided the ride, or anyone else who may have seen the vehicle or had contact with any or all the people in the car just prior to or during the fire before Fire and Rescue arrived.

If you have any information regarding this investigation, please contact the North Battleford RCMP at (306) 446-1720.
