Unofficial candidate list posted for municipal election

The list of candidates in the 2016 municipal election has been posted at City Hall.

According to Acting City Clerk Doug Rodwell, the list is the longest-ever in the history of the city, with three mayoral candidates, 21 council candidates, nine candidates for the Catholic schoolboard, and seven acclaimed candidates for the public school division.

After posting the list, Rodwell expressed hopes that the large amount of candidates will translate into a large amount of voters heading to the polls.

The unofficial list names the following as candidates.

For mayor:

For city council

-Ken Baker

-David Benoit

-Aaron Buckingham

-Stephanie Brown Munro

-Lachlan Cummine

-Michael Diachuk

-Laurie Makichuk

-Gigi Rempel

-Gerry Rollheiser

-Wayne Ross

-Don Schille

-Sheldon Servold

-Jonathan Torresan

For the public school division

Candidates will have 24 hours to choose if they wish to proceed in the race, and  the vote will be held on October 26, 2016.
