The Vermilion RCMP are looking into a case of an early-morning home invasion.
According to a news release from the detachment, RCMP responded to a report of an attempted home invasion at a residence in Vermilion River County around 4:30 a.m. on October 11. When members attended, they found that an armed confrontation had taken place between several unknown suspects and the home owner.
The suspects had tried to gain entry to the home, but were unsuccessful in their attempt, and fled the area in a vehicle. The 64-year old man who was in the home was wounded by a gunshot during the incident, and taken to hospital with a serious injury, which was not life-threatening.
Assistance was provided by neighboring detachments to make patrols in the area, but neither the vehicle nor the suspects were found.
The Forensic Identification unit (FIS) and General Investigative Unit (GIS) from Edmonton are now assisting with the investigation.
Police said that they believe this was not a random act and there is no danger to the public. The Vermilion RCMP are asking anyone who may have information about this incident to contact Vermilion RCMP at 780-853-4441.
