Swearing-in of new council to be broadcast live

Lloydminster residents will be able to tune in to the live webcast of today’s swearing-in ceremony.

The ceremony will take place in the council chambers of City Hall, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend the event in person, but for residents who are unable to make it to the event, the municipal government will carrying a live feed of the proceedings on the City of Lloydminster Youtube channel.

As for whether or not future council meetings will be streamed as well, Acting City Clerk Doug Rodwell said the possibility will be examined after the swearing-in.

“Once we get through this beta test, for lack of any other term, then we’ll look at it,” said Rodwell.

“We’ll see how well it worked, if there are areas we need to make improvements on, and we’ll move forward from there. I think we’ll have to do the trial run, and if there are any technical issues that we have, and then we can move forward.”

The new council consists of returning member Ken Baker, as well as Jonathan Torresan, Michael Diachuk, Aaron Buckingham, Stephanie Brown Munroe, Glenn Fagnan, and Mayor-elect Gerald Aalbers.
