Police blame distracted driving for Marshall crash

A three vehicle crash east of Lloydminster was the result of a distracted driver, according to police.

A report from CTV Saskatoon is stating that police may be laying charges in the wake of the incident, which shut down Highway 16 in both directions east of Marshall yesterday evening.

The report states that emergency services and police were called to the scene around 6:15 last night, after an eastbound car rear-ended a gravel truck. After striking the truck, the car then went through the median and struck a westbound cube van, and came to a rest in the median. The cube van blocked both westbound lanes after the crash.

Both the driver of the car and the driver of the van were taken to hospital in Lloydminster with minor injuries. The driver of the car had to be rescued from their vehicle, after being trapped in the wake of the crash.

The report also states that the driver of the gravel truck contacted police after arriving in Maidstone and noticing damage to his vehicle.

Both directions of the highway were shut down, and re-opened in full after 9 p.m.
