Vegreville woman wins $1 million with Lloydminster lottery ticket

A Vegreville resident is the province’s latest millionaire.

According to a release from the Western Canada Lottery Corporation, Stacey Swihun is the latest lucky winner of Lotto 6/49, taking home $1 million in prize money.

The release states that Swihun found out she won after scanning her ticket at home, on her phone. The draw she won was the November 2 Guaranteed Prize Draw.

“I was at home by myself and started scanning my tickets with the WCLC mobile app,” said Swihun, in the release.

“I got to this one, saw a bunch of zeros and froze. I called my mom and asked her, ‘How many zeros are in a million?’ When she said six, I made my way to the store right away.”

After speaking with her mother, Swihun made her way down to a store to scan the tickets.

“I checked all the other lottery tickets that I had first,” said Swihun.

“The closer I got to the winning ticket, the more I thought it was going to turn out to be a much smaller win, like $10 or something. Luckily, it really was a million.”

According to the release, Swihun plans to save her money, but may take a trip to Ireland. She purchased her winning ticket as part of a $24 Super Pack from the Lloydminster and District Co-op Gas Bar, located along 18 Street in Lloydminster.
