Story by Chris Hunter, mylakelandnow.com

The pilot who died in yesterday’s crash on the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range has been identified as Capt. Thomas McQueen from Hamilton, Ontario.

McQueen had been in the air force for ten years, with experience in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. He was engaged to be married soon.

McQueen was on a routine training mission when the accident occurred. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

“As we take time to come to terms with this terrible news, our primary thoughts are with the loved ones and friends of Capt. McQueen,” said 4-Wing Commander Col. Paul Dole at a press conference. “And we’re doing everything we can to support them in the wake of this tragedy.

“I personally knew Capt. McQueen, as I had the privilege of instructing him at 410 Tactical Fighter Operational Training Squadron when he was learning to fly the Hornet.

“I can tell you first hand how much of a incredible person he was, and he was dedicated to the service of Canada.”
