Canadian Armed Forces Member Based in Wainwright Facing Child Pornography Charges

Steven Massey, a member of the Canadian Armed Forces who is based in Wainwright has been charged with child luring, making child pornography and distribution of child pornography. The 32 year old was arrested in Edmonton on Wednesday. His military home was searched and computers and electronic devices were seized.

The charges come from a joint investigation by ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation unit and the U.S. Homeland Security Investigations. Child luring allegations were first found by U.S. Homeland Security Investigations based in Laredo, Texas in March. ICE alleges that Massey had attempted to arrange to meet up with a Texas girl for sex.

“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) are committed to seeking out and bringing to justice those who prey upon children, and this successful investigation is a good example of that outstanding international collaboration and partnership,” said HSI Ottawa Attaché Melissa Ruiz.

Massey was released from custody on a number of court imposed conditions. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 30.

Anyone with information about this investigation or any child exploitation offence is encouraged to contact local police or submit a tip online.
