Lloydminster is the 165 best place to live in Canada according to MoneySense. This is down 30 spots from last years ranking. The list is made up of 417 cities across Canada.
The magazine compiles the list every year, measuring how great a city is to live in by statistics dealing with weather, wealth, and crime. Everything from unemployment rates, property tax, and participation in arts and culture are put together, based on demographic data from Environics Analytics.
Lloydminster was also ranked 55 on the Lowest Taxes list with sales tax sitting at 5% and average property tax at 1%. The average tax paid by a home owner is $2, 007 and the average income tax is $9,110.
Along with low taxes, MoneySense puts Lloydminster’s economy, home affordability and high wealth and income as the City’s top features. The average house is valued at $559, 272, with rent sitting at $1, 023. The median household income sits at $116,729.
While there is no reason for the drop listed, there was a high increase in Lloydminster’s crime severity index. Last year it was 49.1, this year it is 139.2. Crime rate per 100, 000 more than tripled from last year as well, from 4,553.29 in 2016 to 15, 198 in 2017.
The Border City was also ranked 24 on the Fastest Growing Cities list.
Alberta’s capital city was ranked at 96, and Saskatchewan’s was 34. Ottawa took top honours once again.
