Councillor Ken Baker Wins Canada 150 Community Service Award

Councillor Ken Baker was surprised at Monday’s City Council Meeting with the presentation of the Canada 150 Community Service Award on behalf of former Battlefords-Lloydminster MP Gerry Ritz.

“I’m honoured to receive that award. It’s not even something you think about let alone expect to get something but somewhere along the lines somebody thought that maybe I was worthy of the award and I really appreciate it,” says Councillor Ken Baker.

He adds, “I just think you live along time and you spend a little time working in your community, helping out in your community and people recognize you for that and it’s much appreciated. You don’t look for any awards but it’s nice to be appreciated too.”

Mayor Gerald Aalbers says that Ritz believed not only Baker’s public service but also his involvement in community organizations was worthy of the recognition.

Aalbers adds there will be one more Canada 150 award handed out to a member of the community later this month.
