Unemployment Rate Drops in October For Saskatchewan Region Holding Lloydminster

Unemployment in the Saskatchewan Region holding Lloydminster dropped nearly a full per cent from 7.8% in September to 6.9% in October. That’s a full 2% less than in October 2016.

While the unemployment rate in the Alberta region that holds Lloydminster increased to 8.2% in October from 8% last month. That’s 0.1% more than where it was in October 2016.

Statistics Canada says the Canadian economy added 35,300 jobs in October 2017, but the unemployment rate still increased as more young people looked for work. The number of full-time positions went up by 88,700, while part-time employment went down by 53,400 jobs, pushing the unemployment rate up to 6.3% from 6.2% in September.

Alberta added 11,900 jobs last month, dropping the provincial unemployment rate from 7.9% to 7.8%. Saskatchewan lost 4,000 jobs in October, however unemployment decreased 0.3% to 5.9%.
