AHS warning of potential STI exposure at Edmonton fertility clinic

A possible lapse in sterilization at the Royal Alexandra’s fertility clinic has prompted Alberta Health Services to call 141 patients. AHS says the cleaning and disinfecting probes used to perform endovaginal ultrasounds may not have been properly sterilized between November 14th and 20th.

That has put them at risk of exposure to blood-borne and sexually transmitted infection, but the province says it is exceedingly low. Overbooking of procedures and improper documentation is being blamed.

The issue was discovered on the 20th.
