Battlefords RCMP warning about fraudulent calls and emails

Battlefords RCMP says there are scam emails and phone calls going around the area claiming to be different organizations including the RCMP looking for donations.

Police are reminding residents that the RCMP never calls for donations and they should research any charity before giving money or information. People are also being told never to give out personal information such as date of birth or their social insurance number out over the phone or by email.

Residents are also warned that banks contacting someone by email or phone is very rare and it is safer to contact the bank first.

RCMP says that if someone suspects or has been a victim of fraud they should call the RCMP, Crime Stoppers or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
