Mount Joy Ski Resort opens this weekend

Mount Joy Ski resort is set to have a limited opening starting Saturday.

The Lower Strawberry Hill will be the only one open and attendees will have a reduced rate of $10 for a lift ticket. Rental equipment and the Chalet will also be open for weekend runs. Instructors will also be at the hill for both snowboard and ski.

Vice President of Mount Joy Ski Resort Ray Tatro says Mount Joy says they are “98% sure” they will have all hills running by Saturday, January 13th.

“Next weekend we will for sure have the hill open from the top to bottom. We’re making as much snow as we can, and it’s very close actually, but we’re not quite at the point where we can say it’s ready to be open to the public.

Tatro says will only be open on weekends over this season, but might look at more openings next season.

“Mount Joy this year is still 100% volunteer operated, so that does limit us to Saturday-Sunday. Our business model we hope can change and we’ll go to some paid staff in the future.”

Mount Joy will be open from 10 to 4 on Saturday and Sunday.
