Board of Directors chosen for the 2020 Saskatchewan Summer Games

The City has officially chosen the Board of Directors for the 2020 Saskatchewan Summer Games.

The games will be taking place in Lloydminster and City Council approved the board of directors Monday, as well as selecting Councillor Glenn Fagnan as the City Council Representative. Fagnan has been part of the games before in both 1997 and 2008.

The Board of Directors are all volunteers and include Chair Kevin Kusch and Vice Chair Cindy Rekimowich. Fagnan says that there is a good mix of experience and first timers joining the board.

“We’ve got some folks that have experience the past two games and then we’ve got a number of people that this will be their first time and some new blood coming in. So it’s nice to be passing that off and get some new people on if we’re gonna have games coming down in the later 2020’s and the 30’s.”

The City is anticipating the village for the athletes to be at Lakeland College and Fagnan says that the college will be the heart of the whole operation.

“They’ll be sleeping, they’ll be eating there and of course there’s all kinds of activities that go on day and night. You got 2,000 young people that are coming to the city and to stay at the college is a feather in the hat for the college of course because they get that exposure.”

Fagnan says that the next steps for the city are to hire more staff, including a general manager and administration over the next two years.
