Tax program in Lloydminster to help seniors and new comers file returns

The Community Volunteer Income Tax Program is back for another year helping low income earners file their returns.

The program is sponsored by the Canada Revenue Agency and provides a mandate for Lloydminster to follow. Supervisor of the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program Kay Hauer says that the program receives no funding, so they get help from the community.

“We have a group of volunteers that do income tax returns for low income people and it’s done free of charge.”

Hauer says the program is targeted to help seniors, new comers and modest income earners during tax season.

“Almost everybody needs to submit an income tax return to get the benefits that they are eligible for and we provide a means of doing that for people who have difficulty in affording to go to a professional.”

The program is offered by appointment and through walk-ins at the Synergy Centre, Lakeland College and the Legacy Centre until April 28.
