Lloydminster names new Economic Development Officer

The City has named Katlin Ducherer as their new Economic Development Officer.

Ducherer has had previous roles with City in communications and economic development. She says that in her new role she will make sure the business community is fully supported and opportunities are available to them.

“We are going to compliment the existing business support chair in town, so we’ll work closely with the RBA [Regional Business Accelerator] start up Lloydminster, Community Futures, and the Chamber of Commerce and make sure that we’re not duplicating any services that they already offer.”

In January 2017, the City dissolved the Lloydminster Economic Development Corporation to save around $220,000 annually. This new position will replace the previous corporation and create a new economic development strategy to grow the economy.

Ducherer has been in her position for a week now and has already met with organizations to promote the City whether it be through education seminars or trade missions.

“One of the opportunities that we have in Lloydminster that we maybe never have had before is commercial, industrial and even some residential opportunities available, where in past it was, hey come to Lloydminster hopefully we can find a space for you.”

Ducherer adds that in addition to inviting new business into the community they want to foster existing businesses.

The City is currently gathering data to develop a new economic development strategy.
