Charges laid against Husky Energy after oil spill in North Saskatchewan River

Environment and Climate Change Canada have laid a number of charges against Husky Energy Inc. and Husky Oil Operations Limited after a heavy crude-oil spill in July 2016.

The North Saskatchewan River, near Maidstone was impacted by the spill and the Government of Saskatchewan has also filed a charge under the Environmental Management and Protection Act.

There are a total of ten charges including three under the federal Fisheries Act and one under the Migratory Birds Convention Act. The charges are a result from a 19-month federal and provincial investigation.

The first appearance is scheduled on March 29 at the Lloydminster Provincial Court.
