City opting out of Trans Canada Yellowhead Highway Association

Lloydminster has decided not to renew its membership with the Trans Canada Yellowhead Highway Association, which maintains and develops the use of Highway 16.

Mayor Gerald Aalbers says that they’ve done a lot of great work, but their value today is not the same as it was in previous years.

“Sometimes organizations reach there point in usefulness and I think that with a little time hopefully that organization can be reborn, if that’s what is so chosen. If it is still going to exist potentially after the 6 of April. ”

The board of directors for the organization will have their Annual General Meeting in April and a decision will be made on the future of the association. Aalbers says that if they are still around next year the City will revisit their participation.

“I think we got some abilities to offer up somethings as a City that can assist in the programming and things like that, but at the same time there’s a lot of work to be done.”

The decision was made in Council on Monday.
