City holding 3rd annual Your Voice Night

The City is asking residents for their thoughts and opinions on various laws before they are finalized by Council.

Cannabis will be on the minds of many residents at the annual Your Voice Night and the City is proposing several new legislation that reflect the cannabis framework set out by both provincial governments. However, marijuana won’t be the only thing talked about for example, Council is bringing forward new regulations on when playground zone speed limits should be in effect.

Mayor Gerald Aalbers says that they want to have a conversation directly with Lloydminster residents before going forward with creating policies. This will ensure that the next steps of Council reflect the interest of the community.

Other discussions include the banning of smoking tobacco and cannabis in public spaces, as well as where cannabis retail stores can be located within the City. So far, the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission has received two application for retail stores in Lloydminster. The two proposed locations are on 6601 43 Street and the other is on 80 Avenue.

In total, the City will bring up five new pieces of legislation to discuss with residents before they go for a second reading in Council. Your Voice Night will be held on Thursday, April 19 at the former Sears in the Lloyd Mall.
