Lloydminster and District Co-op has donated $10,000 to the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s (SJHL) Assistance Program, that will help all the people affected by the Humboldt tragedy.
The SJHL created their Assistance Program earlier this week to raise funds for the players and families, both within the Humboldt Broncos organization and in the 10 SJHL teams. Lloyd Co-op CEO Don Stephenson says that this incident was an opportunity to come together and do something for the community.
“This tragedy has touched so many people not just certainly the community of Humboldt, throughout the province of Saskatchewan right across Western Canada, Canada and as we see it’s much more global in reach as well.”
The SJHL has partnered with Co-op for the initiative that has raised $368,000 so far, with over 60 local co-ops donating. Stephenson says that this program has no timelines and the pain that is being felt will resonate for a lot of years.
“The idea behind the program is those affected stretch well beyond Humboldt, the players and families. It’s a grieve counselling, it’s a mental health counselling that enables players to reach out, families to reach out and those affected by this tragedy to reach out and help them through this process.”
The SJHL also announced that they will be selling #HumboldtStrong t-shirts at Co-ops, with all the proceeds going to the Assistance Program.
