Five Lloydminster Minor Hockey players headed to Alberta Cup

The 2018 Alberta Provincial Hockey Cup begins Wednesday, with Lloydminster among the communities battling for the win.

The Alberta Cup begins Wednesday in Spruce Grove. The tournament will see some of the best 15-year-old minor hockey players from around the province to come out and compete, with Lloydminster being no exception.  The Border City has defenseman Max Mills and forwards Tyson Laventure, Jayven Leslie, Josh Medernach and Chase Renton competing on the NorthEast team.

This tournament also has some added incentive for players. It identifies the top men’s hockey players in Alberta, and  the games are also being watched closely by scouts for the Western Hockey League. Some of these players could be selected in the WHL’s upcoming bantam drafts.

The Northeast team will be playing their first game at 2:00PM Thursday at the Grant Fuhr Arena. A full list of scores and stats can be found on Hockety Alberta’s website.
