Bobcats name new assistant coach

Kelly Guard has been named the new Assistant Coach for the Lloydminster Bobcats.

The team announced on Thursday that Guard will be joining the coaching staff for the 2018-2019 season. Guard says that the amount of talent on the team was one of the reasons that brought him to Lloydminster.

“For one the community, it’s really growing and there’s a lot of stuff going on. The talent level that’s coming in with the prospects and what I’ve seen at spring camp really opened my eyes a little bit with the talent they have coming in.”

Guard served as an Assistant Coach and Goalie Coach for the Prince Albert Raiders of the WHL before joining the Bobcats. He says his coaching style is being relatable to his players.

“I’m a big believer in constant contact and building those relationships throughout the year because you’re in charge of those kids for roughly seven to eight months. They look up to you and you got to steer them in the right direction and I find a passion in that.”

The Bobcats will be holding a summer camp from August 13 to 16 and 20 to 23. Guard says that he will be participating in the camp to get more familiar with the players and the community.
