RCMP arrest 21 people in Onion Lake Cree Nation

The RCMP conducted a Enhanced Enforcement Project in Onion Lake Cree Nation resulting in 21 arrests.

The project focused on gang suppression, traffic enforcement, warrant enforcement and checking for cooperation of court ordered conditions. The two-day project resulted in 23 warrant executions, 40 charges processed, seven offenders processed, five remands to appear in court and seven new Criminal Code charges, including two for Impaired Driving.

In terms of traffic, RCMP say there were 401 traffic stops conducted, 76 warnings and SOTI tickets issued, and two Breach charges.

Chief of the Onion Lake Cree Nation Chief Wallace Fox says that he is very grateful to have a positive working relationship with the RCMP.

 “From a year ago till today, our membership is very grateful and feel safer than they did with all the work put in with our elders, council, and RCMP special task force, on gangs and drug activity that was taking place here. Without a collaborative approach, we wouldn’t be able to take our community back.  Safety is a priority amongst our leadership.”
