MS Walk sees an increase in participants for 2018

This year’s MS Walk surpasses it’s goal of 400 participants. On Saturday, Lloydminster and area residents joined in the fight against the disease by walking at Bud Miller Park.

Last year the walk had 340 participants and this year over 420 people took part. MS Society Lloydminster Chapter Manager Patty Milnthorp says that the increase in supporters shows people living with MS that there is a community behind them.

“It shows everybody they’re not alone that everybody is here to support them and we want everybody to know that we’re here to fight for them.”

Their goal is to raise $150,000 and so far have raised $31,635.35 online. Milnthorp says the funds go towards research and funding local services.

“To fund projects like our Knowledge Network, which is across Canada. It’s a call in line for anything, any question you have they’ve got it for you. We have programs and services locally, support groups and we have passes that we give to gyms.”

Milnthorp says Lloydminster is always supportive with events like these.

“Our community is extremely generous, they never fail every year to step up and for that I am very grateful and so are they.”
