HRHS Theatre Department to perform Guys and Dolls JR.

Holy Rosary High School’s Theatre Department is getting students involved in this year’s production set around gambling and love. Drama Teacher Beatriz Bonilla says the production is a condensed version of a famous Broadway show, Guys and Dolls JR.

“It’s based in 1930’s New York City where gambling is prohibited so they’re trying to get an underground craps game going. There’s love, there’s drama and there’s dance.”

There is a total of 15 students in play and upwards of 35 in the whole production. Bonilla says that students involvement is most important.

“Students participation has been a commitment since December since we auditioned at least once a week, up to twice a week, up to three times a week, up to now five days a week for the last couple of weeks. So they’ve been learning choreography, their lines, helping with sets. It’s not just one thing that they’ve been doing, they’ve been really active in all parts of the development of this production.”

Grade 10 Student Victoria Marmulak plays the lead woman who wants to get married after being engaged to her fiance for 14 years. She says acting is something she has done for a long time and hopes to continue.

“I’ve been in productions for the past four years, this will be my sixth full production. I love performing, I love acting, I love singing and I love the stage at this school, I love the people and the environment.”

Tickets for the show are $10 each available at the door and children five and under can get in for free. The play will be running Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at Holy Rosary, starting at 7:30 p.m.
