City beginning property tax mailout

Lloydminster residents can expect their property tax assessments in the mail starting Friday.

The City calculates the property tax using the both the property’s assessed value and the city’s approved mill rate, and applies to all taxable properties in Lloydminster. This year, residents will see an increase of up to 11.5 per cent on residential properties due to a higher mill rate, but this will depend on whether or not the property’s assessed value has increased or decreased over the last year.

Residents must make payment on the taxes before June 30th, 2018 to avoid a penalty. Payment can be made at City Hall during business hours, or after hours by depositing a cheque, with the tax roll number included,  in the City Mail slot.

After June 30th, penalties on outstanding property taxes will one per cent per month on current year’s taxes, and  five per cent on arrears.
