Lloydminster Firefighters approved to unionize

The Lloydminster Fire Department has been approved to join a union.

In a statement released May 17th, Mayor Gerald Aalbers says the City was contacted by the Alberta Labour Relations Board, saying the Fire Department had sent in a request to join the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 5140. The certification was approved by the City and Lloydminster Firefighters voted in favour of joining the union.

Aalbers added in the statement that there should not be any disruption to the fire department’s services, and they look forward to working with the IAFF to further the City and residents’ best interests.
