Lloydminster RCMP calling on residents to help ensure safe May Long Weekend

As the May Long Weekend fast approaches, the Lloydminster RCMP is reminding residents to stay safe while enjoying it.

Lloydminster RCMP Constable Grant Kirzinger says residents and visitors can expect to see an increased police presence out on the road over the weekend.

“Every time a long weekend rolls around, there’s always the dangers of traffic issues and collisions. It’s something we’re definitely aware of inside the detachment. When you go away for a long weekend people associate that with alcohol as well. So we just want to remind everyone to be safe on the roads, and we will be out there to keep control and remind people to use safe driving habits.”

Kirzinger is also reminding people that they can ensure their own safety if they need to travel.

“It’s always a great idea to check the condition of your vehicle to make sure it’s road worthy, that if you’re going away somewhere that people know where you’re going to go and when you’re coming back, and to always plan ahead. Whether that be with alcohol consumption, having a safe and sober way home, or if you’re going camping to pack all the appropriate things you need.”
