City completing spot spraying as caterpillars make seasonal debut

Spot spraying will be completed by the City as forest tent caterpillars, cankerworms and leafrollers return for the spring season.

The City Parks team has already completed spot spraying downtown and is moving on to Bud Miller Park in the next few days. Through the spring, some trees experience defoliation because of pests and in most cases trees do recover to produce new foliage. Therefore the City does not have a mass control program for the insects.

Residents can remove pests on their own property with pressurized water or a diluted mixture of soap and water. For more information on the insects and control measures visit the Government of Canada’s website.
