SHA advising people of poor air quality

The Saskatchewan Health Authority is advising people to take preventative measures if smoke from the recent forest fires spread across the province causing poor air quality.

SHA Medical Health Officer Dr. Mandiangu Nsungu of North Battleford says people who are particularly at risk include, older adults and seniors, as well as people with heart or lung conditions.

“Monitor your symptoms and seek medical attention if you get worse, particularly if you have a pre-existing respiratory condition.”

Health officials says you can protect yourself by avoiding strenuous outdoor activities, not using dust masks or cloths as they are not designed to protect lungs from the smoke, stay inside and turn on air conditioning and avoid tobacco smoke.

People can keep up to date with the air quality on Environment Canada’s website.
