Local fashionistas support LPSD Breakfast Program

Local fashionistas came together Wednesday night in support of the LPSD Children’s Breakfast Program.

The event was held by several different downtown businesses at the Lloydminster Legion, and also saw the models who are currently Miss Lloydminster and Miss Marwayne join the show. All of the funds brought in from the show will go towards the Children’s’ breakfast program, which is currently operating in LPSD schools across Lloydminster.

Wellness for Learning Coordinator Sarah Kettle says that the breakfast program helps kids get a healthy start for the school day, especially for kids who might not have another chance.

“For many of our students it’s the only meal they get that day. So we want to make sure that they’re getting something nutritious, something that’s really going to stick with them for the rest of the day.”

The program focuses on giving kids a meal that hits all of the four food groups, with focus on fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains and dairy. Kettle says since the schools brought in the breakfast program, she’s seen a difference in the kids who use it.

“You can tell when a student has had a healthy breakfast. They’re more engaged in the classroom, they’re more prepared, and all in all just better students.”

Kettle adds that they would not be able to do a program like this without the help of the community, and she is very grateful for everyone coming out to support them.
